Earring Holder

Hey readers!  Cate here with a Wednesday guest post.  Ok so awhile back in my Cane-Backed Chair post, I confessed that I went to the thrift store for bookends but left with 3 completely not-on-my-shopping-list things.  As promised, I have the scoop for you on item No. 2 - a picture frame.

I liked the round frame and the keys on the side to tighten it at your desired angle.  I did not, however, like the idea of cutting up a photo just to fit inside.  So let's do the craft math everybody: what does picture frame + paint + cotton batting + burlap equal?

How 'bout an earring holder!

The frame was disassembled and repainted in the same warm gray chalk paint called "Primitive" by Americana Decor that I used on the Sisal Rope Chandelier from last week's post.  I also heavily distressed the edges to bring out the great detailing on the frame.

I removed the glass since I wouldn't be using it and recovering the backing with burlap over a layer of cotton batting from the fabric store.

After it was recovered, I put the backing back in the frame without the glass so that the filler and fabric would create a pincushion effect.  For some added glamour, I stuck a couple pearl-tipped pins in there to perch the earrings on {although you can easily stick the earrings straight in}.

This was actually my first item to sell at the Garage Sale we had on June 7th.  I am so tickled someone loved it enough to snatch it up within the first few minutes of opening the garage door!

Now, I know what you're thinking... what about thrift store item No. 3?  You will have to check back in for that post soon ;)  And I truly hope you do because it might be my favorite find of all!

Happy Wednesday,

~Cate

An uber trendy, guilt free shopping source {P.S. I Adore You}

Hi All! There's nothing like beautiful craft being sold for a great cause to sway a DIYer to buy new! Thanks to Mandi from Vintage Revivals, I was recently introduced to P.S. I Adore You.

This is an amazing site where all kinds of beautiful, on-trend handmade things are being sold to fund the battle that many children and their families are fighting against childhood cancer. From babies to kids, adults and their homes, this is a one stop shopping source. The cherry on top? The prices. Seriously. How many times have you wanted to shop in support of a great cause but the prices were steep? I've totally been there. This site offers trendy, gorgeous items that are uber affordable. The savings are ridiculous!

Here are just a few of my favorite items that are being featured right at this very moment:

Flats, $11.95

Flats

Drawer pulls, $3.99

Drawer Pulls

Girls floral rompers, $12.99

Floral Rompers

Inspirational decor prints, $10

Inspirational Decor Prints

They only feature particular items for a limited amount of time, so check in often! I'm thinking I might get my Christmas shopping done early this year. :) And if you have a particular craft that you'd be interested in selling in support of the fight against childhood cancer, mosey over to the Feature Me link and find out how you can get started!

Last week I caught these most beautiful Mexican blankets by Six and Grand on P.S. I Adore You right before their deal ended, (again, thanks to Mandi). You can still purchase these directly from Six and Grand, they're just not discounted at P.S. I Adore You anymore; as I mentioned, all items are only featured for a limited amount of time.

I snagged two intending to maybe wrap one up as a gift. But, once they came in the mail I couldn't bring myself to part with either. I have a feeling that may be my biggest issue with this site...

Shire's room:

One thing I love about these blankets are the specks of various colors sprinkled throughout the piece. They're not one solid color, they're made with a rainbow of colors which give them beautiful depth and interest!

Living room:

If you're in the market for a unique gift idea, (or to treat yourself!), please head over to P.S. I Adore You. Find something pretty and help fund a fight which no child or their family should ever have to fight, much less alone.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Rustic DIY photo holder {hint, Father's Day is Sunday!}

Hi friends! I had another post ready for today but am cutting the line-up with this last minute DIY gift idea for Father's Day! So sorry it's this late; I didn't think of it until yesterday! This project is one you could certainly keep in your back pocket year round, (think Christmas gifts, hostess gift, birthday gift, just because)!

The idea blossomed as I was reorganizing the garage after last Saturday's garage sale, and I uncovered a handful of these tree stump disks that I used as votive candle pillars over Christmas. They're just so interesting; I knew there would be some way  to use them again. Given the small amount of space they take up, I thought they'd make perfect photo holders for a desk, bookshelf, or dresser!

Supplies:
-tree stump disks, (you could even turn over a small bowl or glass!)
-paper clips
-gold spray paint
-hot glue

How-to:

-Spray paint the paper clips and let dry -Hot glue the bottom of the paper clips and stick onto whatever surface you're using as your base -Stick photo between the metal arms of the paper clip -DONE!

Given my late timing on this project and the fact that tree stump disks are a little hard to come by in June, (seriously, Chelsea, get with the program!), this would be a super project to pin and remember for the holiday season! These shaved tree stumps are free and found in plenty anywhere Christmas trees are being sold. Remind me to re-post in about 6 months, will you? :)

Have a wonderful weekend, all, and enjoy celebrating the loving, admirable men in your life. Happy Father's day!
